Application for NCCU Tuition Scholarship

Curvin B. Chance Foundation, Inc. scholarship established in respectful and loving memory of Mr. Curvin B. Chance who was a Chemistry major at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Renewable scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit, financial need and available funding to an African-American student who is currently enrolled at NCCU with a major of chemistry, or mathematics. Student must have proven or established interests in pursuing these fields of interest in order to receive this scholarship.

The top three finalists will be called in for a personal interview with several of the board members.

This student will be selected and agreed upon by the Board. The recipient will be required both to mentor a high school student and maintain at least a “B” average.

Each year the foundation will meet to decide how the monies will be disbursed while always seeking to diversify and increase our scholarship fund.

These criteria will be considered most important in the selection of a successful candidate.  The scholarship requirements for 2008 - 2009 school year are as follows:

  • At least a rising sophomore at NCCU
  • Resident of North Carolina
  • Majoring in Chemistry or Mathematics
  • Minimum GPA 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • American citizen
  • African American
  • Indicate a need for financial assistance
  • Willing to mentor a high school student

The following checklist items must be included in your application packet in order to be considered complete:

  • Completed scholarship application including essay

  • Two (2) sealed letters of recommendation on school letterhead from NCCU faculty

Application for Academic Scholarship

Curvin B. Chance Foundation, Inc. scholarship established in respectful and loving memory of Mr. Curvin B. Chance who was a Chemistry major at North Carolina Central University (NCCU)and a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.  This year the Foundation will offer academic scholarships of no less than $1,000.00 to deserving students seeking a college education who reside in North Carolina, New York or Georgia and meet the requirements as set forth by the Board of Directors. 

Each student will be selected and agreed upon by the Board. Each year the foundation will meet to decide how the monies will be disbursed while always seeking to diversify and increase our scholarship fund.

These criteria will be considered most important in the selection of a successful candidate.  The scholarship requirements for 2008- 2009 school year are as follows:

  • College bound, graduating high school senior
  • Currently enrolled college student who is in good academic standing
  • Resident of North Carolina, New York or Georgia
  • African American
  • Minimum GPA 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Desire to pursue major and career in mathematics or other sciences
  • Actively involved in community service and extra-curricular activities

The following checklist items must be included in your application packet in order to be considered complete:

  • Completed academic scholarship application including essay

  • Copy of application for admission or letter of acceptance from college or university.
  • Two (2) sealed letters of recommendation (other than relatives)

    One letter of recommendation from a high school teacher or college professor.

    One letter of recommendation from individual verifying your active involvement in community service. Reference must be in leadership role within service organization.
